Metal Conservation

The beautiful memorial shown above by Bela Pratt was cut into 5 pieces by vandals to be sold for scrap metal to fund their drug habit.  Fortunately, the owner of the scrap metal store contacted the police and the thieves were caught.

  • Gravesite memorial restoration

The image below shows the condition of the statue as of October 1, 2012 after it has been welded back together, with great difficulty. It is still in the process of conservation and will be repatinated in the near future to blend the seams in with the remaining surface finish.  This work is a collaborative venture between SDACS LLC and the New England Sculpture Foundry.

  • Conservation of an untitled piece by robert engman

The surface of this object was worn and beginning to flake after approximately 30 years of exhibition.  The artist was contacted and a formulation of paint worked out that mimicked the original appearance and yet was reversible. After cleaning the original, priming and repainting, it is now back on exhibition.
